  1. In chapter 16, the trial takes place and many people show up to watch. The children are surprised to see Dolphus Raymond hanging around with black people even though he’s white. They also find out that he has mixed children that he looks after. When they get into the courtroom, there’s no room with the white people so Jem, Scout and Dill sit with Reverend Sykes on the “coloured balcony”. Atticus doesn’t want them to go but they go anyway and he can’t see them on the balcony. Also Mr Underwood, although he doesn’t like black people, sticks up for Tom Robinson and Atticus in the courtroom.

  2. Emily99 says:

The trial is the following day and everyone comes to the trial. Miss Maudie refuses to go to the trial saying that watching someone on trial for his life is like attending a Roman carnival. After, Jem, Scout, and Dill wait for most of the crowd to enter the courthouse so that they can slip in at the back and prevent Atticus from noticing them.Reverend Sykes lets them sit in the balcony where black people are required to sit in order to watch the trial.
